Fishing Amago Salmon is a favorite pasttime with the Yoshii river next to the hostel you don’t have to go far.
Standing on the bridge in Okotsu you can see the fish waiting for the food floating downstream. This fish is Amago salmon. Amago are commonly found in mountainous rivers and streams because they like cold water (below 20 degrees). Amago are active during the day; they spawn from October to November.
Early to mid April there is the Okutsu Family Amago Salmon Fishing Competition. Ask at the reception for more information on how to participate.
In the area there are several amago salmon hatcheries which release the salmon in the different rivers. You can also find these amago salmon in local restaurants and the Okutsu road station.
Our local expert can guide you to find the best spots. With a simple rod and line he is catching these fish.
At the Onbarakogen Auto Camping Ground there is a possibility to fish for rainbow trout.
