Your accommodation choices
The Okutsu Onsen Hostel accommodation is a mix of dorms and private rooms. All rooms with tatami floors and your bedding is an original Japanese futon, warm and cosy.
In style of a traditional Japanese house the rooms are separated with fusumas (Japanese sliding doors). Our dorms are “female only” or mixed. We have private rooms for 2, 3 or 4 people in our main building or annexes. Groups up to 30 people can be accommodated. (Please contact us via the booking page)
The hostel has 2 well equipped kitchens for travelers who like to do their own cooking. Across the road we have our own very cosy “Tiger bar” serving light snacks and drinks with flexible opening times. Just a great place to relax, party, find new friends and interact with foreigners and locals.
We have some bicycles for you FREE to use. The area is very suitable for lovely bike rides. Also ample parking space for cars, motorbikes, bicycles.
The hostel management has very good relationships with the local population. You as a traveler can profit from this. For instance we have made a great deal with the ski club and negotiated a great discount on the ski lifts, equipment hire and ski instructions. For people who like to do woodworking have a look at this woodworking page. In every season we have organised different activities to make your stay in Okutsu very memorable. see activities for more information.
Volunteers: One of our aims at the hostel is to support the local population and the environment. For instance one local Sakate-san (70) has been cleaning up the Yoshii river, which flows thru Okutsu, for the last 5 years. Much more can be done but that sometimes needs some younger more agile persons :). Also we are always looking for volunteers to work in the hostel. Feel free to contact us via the booking request form. Just write in the remarks what you would like to do.
